Hexane, a petroleum-derived solvent, is the reference solvent for the industrial extraction of vegetable oils, chosen for its yield. RB Process extracts rice bran oil with supercritical CO2 instead: no hexane, no petrochemical solvent and no solvent residue in the oils. The CO2 is compressed, then reused in a closed loop. The process is protected by patent EP3766950, granted in Europe, the United States and Japan.
A single raw material feeds the whole portfolio. Supercritical CO2 extraction draws the OryzActive oils from the bran; the defatted bran that remains becomes the OryzaCare exfoliant. Rice bran, a co-product of rice milling currently used as animal feed, is fully valorised into cosmetic ingredients.
Every claim rests on data from independent laboratories. Helioscience documents the antioxidant activity, photostability and photoactivation of the OryzActive oils. Dermaclaim documents the rinse-off gel with 5 % OryzaCare: significantly increased desquamation at D14 vs D0, significantly improved skin hydration at D14 vs D0, cell regeneration after 13 days of treatment compared with an untreated area, and skin tolerance. One INCI covers the whole OryzActive range, Oryza Sativa Bran Oil, which simplifies labelling and sourcing. The oils replace mineral oils, silicones and solvent-extracted bases in the lipid phase and add antioxidant activity, with no extra INCI line. Typical uses: antioxidant serums and the lipid phase of face and body care.
The rice bran comes from the rice-growing area of the Albufera de Valencia, one of the oldest in the Mediterranean, and is processed close to the paddies. Both ranges are of plant origin and obtained by a process compatible with the COSMOS standard.
